Prof. Mohan Munasinghe Patron

Mohan Munasinghe is a physicist and climatologist of Sri Lankan origin. He is chairman of the Munasinghe Institute for Development, director-general of the Sustainable Consumption Institute at the University of Manchester and vice-chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), in which position he shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with IPCC colleagues and former US vice-president Al Gore. He has been an honorary senior advisor to Sri Lankan governments since 1980 and has served as chancellor of the International Water Academy in Oslo and founding-president of the Lanka International Forum on Environment and Sustainable Development. He serves as a visiting professor at the United Nations University in Tokyo and helped establish the computer-science and engineering faculty of the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. He has authored or co-authored a number of books and was advisor to the US President’s Council on Environmental Quality from 1990 to 1992.

Charith Senanayaka Director

Charith Senanayake has been involved in conservation-related activities in Sri Lanka since 2004. He has developed regional environmental models such as the ‘green canopy’ concept for sustainable settlements, now in use by the Urban Development Authority of Sri Lanka, and advises government and various agencies on the restoration of threatened coastal green belts and rainforest ecosystems. He has also pioneered community-based ecosystem remediation programmes across the country.


Dr. Ranil Senanayaka

The originator of the Analog Forestry concept, Dr. Senanayaka was educated as a systems ecologist at the University of California at Davis and has held numerous international positions including those of executive director at the Environmental Liaison Centre International, Kenya, senior scientist at Counterpart International, Washington D.C., and senior lecturer at Melbourne and Monash Universities. He is the creator of Analog Forestry and a co-founder of the International Analog Forest Network and Rainforest Rescue International. Dr. Senanayaka has served on the UNEP committee that produced the Global Biodiversity Assessment and as a consultant to the World Bank and UNDP.
